ENCORE!

You ask: we deliver! Your favorite nature-inspired pieces return to the Juventas stage.

October 27, 2023

Juventas New Music Ensemble continues its 2023-24 season “Visions of Green” with Encore!, a program of nature-themed audience favorites from the past five years. The concert features the works of six living composers Oliver Caplan, Gwyneth Walker, Stacy Garrop, Bongani Ndodana-Breen, Nell Shaw Cohen, and Christina Rusnak. It will be presented on November 11, 8pm at the Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge, MA, and live-streamed on YouTube.

Encore! celebrates new music as repertoire. The program was curated from five years of “Play It Again!” cards, a survey that audience members are invited to complete after a Juventas Mainstage program. Following the 19th season’s environmental theme, each piece is inspired by the natural world and iconic natural landmarks such as the Mystic River, Umzimvubu River, Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, Vermont countryside, and the coast of Newport.

Juventas believes contemporary music deserves repeat performances, just like the classical greats,

says Artistic Director Oliver Caplan. “A great piece of music reveals itself in layers; each time we listen, we notice something new

Encore! will feature performances by Nicholas Southwick, Celine Ferro, Anne Howarth, Julia Scott Carey, Ryan Shannon, and Thomas Barth.

Tickets are on sale now at juventasmusic.org and range from $1-$35. Juventas’s new $125 Club Magenta subscription offers the entire Mainstage Season a 30% discount. In addition, Juventas also continues to provide $1 Music for All tickets for anyone who cannot afford regular ticket pricing, no questions asked.
