Join us on April 19 when Juventas New Music Ensemble presents the Juventas Trio in a concert showcasing works of young living composers alongside Olivier Messiaen's monumental Quartet for the End of Time.
"As an ensemble that features new works by young composers, our performance of Messiaen's work is somewhat of a special event," explains Michael Sakir, Juventas Music Director. "For so many other groups, the inclusion of a contemporary work is an occasion. For us, it is just the opposite: performing works of the past is a rarity. Quartet for the End of Time was composed by Messiaen at the age of 33; hearing the world view of this young mind from a different era offers an important foil for the hot-off-the-press works that form our daily bread and butter. Each sheds light on the other."
The concert introduces Michael Sakir as Juventas' new Music Director, following his tenure as Associate Conductor. Mr. Sakir is one third of the Juventas Trio, a subset of the larger ensemble that plays together on a regular basis. The group also includes Alexa Schmitz, violin, and Brandon Brooks, cello. The three will be joined by guest artist Amy Advocat for the Messaien quartet. Hailed as "dazzling" by the Boston Globe, Ms. Advocat has performed with some of the areas finest new music ensembles, including Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Firebird Ensemble and The New Fromm Players at Tangelwood.
