"Spreading the Word" - JUVENTAS ANNOUNCES THIRD SEASON OF PREMIERE
PERFORMANCES OF NEW MUSIC BY YOUNG COMPOSERS
Performing in venues from churches to nightclubs, and collaborating
with a variety of like-minded organizations, Juventas builds a new
community for composers, musicians, and listeners
Founded in 2005, Juventas gives a voice to artists who have rarely had
a chance to establish themselves. With a mission aimed at bringing
new music to the community, Juventas performs each concert in multiple
venues--ranging from churches to night clubs. The group explores a
variety of styles and creates new chamber ensembles based on the
imaginations of young, living composers. Post-concert receptions
connect musicians and composers with listeners, and Juventas-hosted
open improvisation sessions offer opportunities for classical
musicians to explore new styles, and for the group to extend its
community to other musicians in the Boston area.
"Juventas allows the listeners to decide the future of the music realm
by giving them a chance to hear the multitudes of pieces written
everyday by amazing, talented people just like you and I. We act as
the narrator of musical stories that, once heard, are profoundly
beautiful and difficult to ignore," states Erin Huelskamp, executive
director.
Performing over seven world premieres and twelve Boston premieres in
just two years, Juventas provides listeners and composers with
high-quality performances and recordings. Planning for the third
season already includes five world premieres, one Boston premiere, and
a position as ensemble-in-residence at the Boston Conservatory.
"This music is raw, vital and untested!" exclaims Mark Buckles, music
director. "And our musicians are not shy about diving into uncharted
waters. They approach new pieces with passion and aplomb, delivering
precise, powerful interpretations."
"I can't count how many pieces I have written to this day, but I can
count on my fingers how many have had a life beyond their premiere,"
states Joseph Trapanese, young composer. "Juventas transcends your
standard ensemble and overcomes this composer's dilemma by bringing
fresh new music to many through multiple concerts and performances."
Entitled "Spreading the Word", Juventas's third season focuses on
cultivating a bond between artists and the community. The ensemble
draws support for music by performing in the free event Uplifted: Arts
Perpetuating Hope on September 15, 2007 at the Boston Conservatory,
and with outreach at the Images and Voices of Hope 2007 World Summit
in October.
In the spring, Juventas will launch their first ever Opera Project in
collaboration with OperaHub. This project premieres three new chamber
operas written specifically for the group. In addition, the ensemble
will present collaborative concerts with dancers and choreographers at
The Boston Conservatory, and travel to their first out-of-state
concert at West Liberty State College in West Virginia.

FREE IMPROVISATION SESSIONS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Have you ever wanted to create music? To express yourself through
sound? With music improvisation, it is possible for anyone to do
so...regardless of technical facility on an instrument!
The goal of the Juventas Improvisation Sessions is to provide regular
gatherings in an attempt to bring together a group of people
interested in learning and exploring the art of improvisation. Through
improvisation, we grow to understand our personality, life, and music.
We practice a form of communication that requires no words; instead,
sound flows back and forth between open minds, ultimately creating
music.
We hope to meet twice a month, and we invite any person interested in
learning about music improvisation to join our gatherings.

A global network of the world's journalists, media professionals, and
other creatives has invited Juventas to perform at their annual

Catskill Mountain retreat center. The link with Images and Voices of

Sakir. Michael is a pianist and conductor with experience producing
and conducting new music. Michael received his Bachelor's from Oberlin
and is moving to Boston in the Fall to pursue his Masters in
Conducting at The Boston Conservatory. We're thrilled to have him join
us!
A Word from Michael:
It is a profound honor and pleasure to join the Juventas! New Music
Ensemble as Associate Music Director. The unique mission statement of
this group -- to present new music by some of today's most talented
young composers -- is one that I passionately share. I am thrilled to
be part of this ensemble's largest and most exciting season yet.
