The Juventas Spotlight series features our core musicians in intimate venues around the Boston area. Solo and duo concerts will feature music by living composers alongside works from other periods.
Nate Tucker, percussion
Dec 8 @ 5:30 PM, The Lilypad
Core Percussionist, Nate Tucker, will be performing two (2) epic pieces in the standard percussion repertoire, the first being Le Corps a Corps by Georges Aperghis. Scored for zarb (a small hand held Arabic drum) and spoken voice with numerous instructions for the performer's physical movements, this, like many of Aperghis' works, treads the thin line between music and theater. The second, a drum set solo by Frank Zappa that was considered impossible when first composed with insane polyrhythms over a steady incredibly slow ostinato played by the left foot throughout.
Alongside these pieces, Nate will perform his own compositions including:
Marimba Duo (featuring Juventas' previous core percussionist Brian Calhoon)
an ode to Steve Reich
Orlando Cela, flute
30 Years of Boston Flute
Feb 22 @ 5:00 PM, The Lilypad
Juventas' Principle Flutist Orlando Cela celebrates 30 years of works created for flute by Boston-based or trained composers.
Pianist Christina Wright-Ivanova joins Orlando during a portion of the program.
Featuring 50 minutes of works written since 1986, this concert will highlight pieces created by composers associated with a variety of Boston colleges.
Tickets at the door, with a suggested donation of $20, to benefit Juventas' support for emerging composers.
